Start with a four-layer charger map
Draw the charging area before opening the Home or charger app. Mark four layers on a photo or simple plan:

Give every device one testable job
A shared charging setup usually fails from role overlap, not a lack of devices. Write one sentence for each component:
- “The charger app must let each approved driver start an authorized session without exposing another driver’s account.”
- “The camera must show the wall box, connector, cable, and vehicle-side approach without showing either home’s private windows.”

Separate charger control from Apple Home control
Many chargers do not appear as native Apple Home accessories. Owners may use the charger app, vehicle app, a maker integration, a third-party bridge, or a separate energy platform. Document the path you actually use instead of assuming HomeKit controls charging because a nearby camera and light appear in Apple Home.

Secure the cable and connector without creating a hazard
Cable theft and tampering matter, but a makeshift lock, enclosure, or routing change can create a trip, impact, heat, moisture, or emergency-access problem. Follow the charger and vehicle instructions and have the installer review any physical protection.
