Keep lock state and door state separate
“Locked” and “closed” are not the same condition. A deadbolt can extend while the door is open. A door can sit closed while the bolt remains retracted. A lock’s motor state cannot prove that the opening is secure unless the system also knows the door position and the bolt reached its intended end state.
For a side door that belongs to the alarm perimeter, use a dedicated contact sensor or a supported door-position sensor. Build notifications around combinations that matter:

Give each regular user a named credential where the system supports it. Do not make family members, tenants, cleaners, or carers share an administrator account. An administrator should be able to add, suspend, expire, and remove access without resetting every resident.

- How long does the vendor keep access events?

- Does a monitoring, smart-home, or voice platform receive lock state?

- What happens to access and history if a subscription ends?

Unlocking should not automatically disarm an alarm unless the household has reviewed the exact trigger, identity assumptions, failure modes, and fallback.
