What “no subscription” should mean

Do not rely on the phrase alone. Ask the seller to document what remains available without a paid plan:

  • Remote alerts: are phone notifications included, limited, or dependent on a vendor account?

A system can have no mandatory monthly fee and still need an account, internet service, batteries, storage media, replacement hardware, or an optional monitoring plan. Write the operating cost and the feature boundary down before buying.

Confirm the recording begins early enough, continues long enough, has a correct timestamp, captures a usable face or clothing view, and can be exported from the owner account. A camera that sends an alert but loses the event during an internet outage is not equivalent to local recording.

4. Response and lighting

Lighting should make the route safer and improve evidence without shining into neighbouring homes. Decide which events turn on a light, sound a local alarm, notify a household member, or trigger a call for help. A motion alert alone is not a response plan.
