Step-by-step: exit test mode safely

1. Stop generating test events

Close doors and windows, return motion areas to normal, reseat device covers, and stop pressing test buttons. Wait for the panel to process restorals before changing account state. A late signal can otherwise arrive after the monitoring center removes the account from test.

2. Reconcile every expected signal

Compare the planned list with what the panel, event history, and monitoring center observed. Mark a signal as passed only if it appeared at the layer you meant to test. A local chime does not prove a monitoring signal; a monitoring signal does not prove a push alert; a push alert does not prove a siren.

3. Clear temporary bypasses and maintenance states

5. Ask the monitoring provider to end the test

These signals can follow different rules from burglary zones. Do not infer that an intrusion test window covers them. Use the device maker, monitoring provider, and local authority instructions for the exact device and premises. Never create smoke, gas, medical, or panic events as a casual end-to-end test.

Multi-unit and mixed-use properties

Confirm the unit number, shared entrance, commercial area, and responsible contact. A correctly named sensor attached to the wrong monitored partition is still a response failure.

Installer or contractor testing

The account owner should know who placed the system on test, what was changed, and who is authorized to remove it. At handoff, remove temporary credentials and review the installer handoff checklist.

Internet, cellular, or power maintenance
